Feria de Abril – Sevilla Feria

“Quien no ha visto a Sevilla no ha visto a marvilla” / “Who has not seen Sevilla has not seen a marvel”.  It is Springtime, and all eyes turn to Sevilla. the capital of Andalucía, the Feria of this proud and super elegant city takes place two weeks after Semana Santa (Easter). Our expectations were extremely high for the Sevilla Feria, especially after our visit to the beautiful Mariena del Alto. Founded in 1441, Mairena is the oldest Feria in Spain, and was the model for the Sevilla Feria.

With over a thousand horses and carriages registered for Sevilla, it is absolutely spectacular in every direction.  The sense of style is truly unique, the passion, glamour and etiquette from all the riders is so special, and it feels timeless.  Riders of all ages gather, small children look poised on horseback, the Amazonas are glamorous, the older generation full of joy showcasing their many years of riding tradition.

Sevilla takes some criticism for the number of private Casetas – these are little tented structures where people gather to eat, dance and socialise and there are over 1000.   Some find it too exclusive, but many families save all year to have their own Caseta at the Feria and pay monthly, their whole family year revolves around it.  There are a good number of public casetas and the prices for food and drink is very reasonable. We felt welcomed and the atmosphere was electric, and it felt like a Feria for all.  The horses parade from 1pm – 8pm and then are escorted out by the mounted National Police, in itself a sight to see. TikTok Video here. The crowds grow though the day and they dance into the early hours, there is nothing like a Spanish party!
